Since 1912, YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix has been on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. YWCA’s mission lives in the heart of employees, volunteers and partners and demands a world of equity and human decency. We commit ourselves to the work of justice. Every day, we get up and do the work.
Across the valley, we turn on our lights and open our doors to answer the cry for justice. We offer safe rides, meals, and community center activities for seniors enabling them to age in place. We teach women and their families financial independence. We dismantle systemic racism and misogyny, because the future needs all of us.
Our power comes from the women and girls we serve. We are thought leaders. We are fearless movers. We are innovative shakers. We move justice out of our doors and into the power structures that determine the future. Our voices rise together to do the work.
YWCA’s mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. We will get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, until institutions are transformed, until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do:
YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix is a visible voice in social justice, hosting conversations, film screenings, and community events where people can come together to share and learn how race and racial justice affect each of us. Each April, we join more than 200 sister associations across the nation in Stand Against Racism, uniting our voices to advocate, educate, and promote racial justice.
YWCA sponsors events that support women empowering women to promote financial independence and economic advancement, with a particular focus on the way race impacts women’s economic opportunities. Our financial literacy and wage negotiation courses give women the skills to take control of their career and their fiscal health and stability. Additionally, our programs invite our entire community to come together to explore the opportunities and barriers to creating equality for all.
CREATING COMMUNITY FOR AGING ADULTS
We believe that when communities come together, individuals and families get stronger. From creating community spaces where seniors receive the companionship and support they need to age in place, to providing safe spaces where women can build networks of support, YWCA is committed to building equitable and inclusive communities together.
Advocating for Change
Since our founding, YWCA has been on the forefront of the biggest issues of the day — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity and from violence prevention to health care reform. On the local, state, and national level, we carry on this long tradition of social action and advocacy to advance our mission – advocating for policies that promote racial justice and gender equality.
