Christy Moore – 2018 Advocacy Award Recipient

Founder and Owner, Social Spin, Inc.

Christy Moore was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her father was a blue-collar worker, and her mother placed her career on hold to raise Christy and her three sisters. Christy and her family come from humble beginnings, which drew Christy to a career in social work.

Growing up, Christy hoped for a better future for herself, her family and everyone experiencing pain. She dreamt of opportunities to lift others up. Those dreams became a reality once Christy earned her Master of Social Work from UNLV. She is a certified Emergenetics Associate and an AEI Leadership Network Fellow.

Prior to starting her own business, Christy served at the helm of numerous local, statewide and national nonprofits for two decades. Such as: Valley Leadership, Planned Parenthood Arizona, National Association of Social Workers, and the National Advocacy and Training Network. Her life work and passion include equipping the unemployed and underemployed, empowering victims of violence, protecting women’s reproductive rights and increasing civic engagement.

She’s received the GPCC’s Athena Young Professional Award, ONE’s Organizational Accomplishment and Innovation Award and now, YWCA’s Tribute to Leadership Advocacy Award.

Christy is Founder and Owner of Social Spin, Inc., an Arizona-based benefit corporation transforming laundromats and providing workforce development. Through her visionary leadership, these underperforming community assets are becoming vibrant social hubs that celebrate arts, culture and community. They’re also providing opportunities and experience to youth to gain employable skills.

Christy is most proud of fully living and leading within her core values. Her greatest challenge, was overcoming the many moments of “isms.” As such, her advice to young women is to know your worth. Christy was taught to use her hands for service and her voice for advocacy. The YWCA and its mission resonate with her and her ongoing works. She believes the YWCA works tirelessly to empower women and others in need through their comprehensive programs and services.

She and her husband Mitchell have been pursuing passions together for over a decade, and they love being an Auntie and Uncle!

The YWCA is honored to present the 2018 Advocacy Award to Christy Moore.
